Girl Bullying & Empowerment Conference Keynote Presenter Dr. Shaheen Shariff directs ongoing research at McGill University pertaining to cyberbullying among students.

Watch Dr. Shariff compare traditional bullying and cyberbullying.

As Principal Investigator and Director of Define the Line projects at McGill University, Dr. Shariff points out that while today’s students are “digital natives,” they may not fully comprehend the risks related to their online activities.

Watch Dr. Shariff discuss the far-reaching impact of destructive social media use.

Author of several books and numerous journal articles, Dr. Shariff will present a keynote session entitled Sexting and Cyberbullying: Defining the Line for Digitally Empowered Kids and Young Adults.  She will also present a breakout session entitled Defining the Lines: Legacy Issues Relating to Sexting during the main conference.

For the past 8 years, the Girl Bullying Conference has brought focus to the problem of relational aggression among girls. Quite naturally, many of the field-tested interventions presented at the conference encourage friendship, sisterhood and building other types of supportive relationships – hence the added emphasis on female empowerment.

Now in its 9th year, the Girl Bullying & Empowerment Conference will be more accessible – with locations in Las Vegas, Atlanta and Niagara Falls.  This unique gathering will help counselors, principals, teachers, social workers and other professionals understand the latest research and field-tested strategies designed to address relational aggression and build positive, supportive relationships among girls.
